Artist Bio

Deborah Kuchar is an artist working primarily with ceramic sculpture. For the past six years, her practice has been developed through sustained studio work and serial making. She lives and works in northern New Jersey.

Artists Statement

The overall arc of my art practice is the notion of “Home as a Verb.” “Home as a Verb” considers the thresholds we find ourselves in—holding us back, drawing us forward, or where we wait or feel stuck. Through installation, my ceramic sculpture travels to the cusp of this notion, inviting the natural environment to play a role in turning a static piece of clay into an entity of its own belonging. As a witness, this is the strength of my practice.
